5 Days of Curriculum Evaluation: Tapestry of Grace

Here we are at day 3 of the 5 days of  ... blog hop. I have been having a blast reading my other crewmates' blog posts on topics such as Traveling with Kids, Artistic Expression, Social Media, Classical Education and lots more. I hope you have enjoyed reading about my different curriculum evaluations. Today we will be tackling Tapestry of Grace . I heard about tapestry of Grace a couple of years ago. Considering myself more of a classical homeschooler, I was very attracted to Tapestry. Why? because Tapestry's philosophy of learning is classical. It follows the Trivium's stages of grammar, dialectic and rhetoric. On top of that it also follows the classical 4 year cycle through History. We are now in our second year and will definitely continue on with this program up to grade 12. Tapestry of Grace is more of a unit study kind of curriculum but it is literature, living books and Great Books based as well. The core of the program rests on the reading of good l...

Studies of Ancient Civilizations Extra Resources

I love TOG because of its breadth and width of information and literature. Within the curriculum you will find plenty of resources to read along with each unit. I did do some extra reading for myself and also with Zach just to complement and add more variety in style and ways of presenting the subject matter; Zach has developed a real interest for History. Here is a list of resources that I found useful while studying the Ancient Civilizations in our Tapestry of Grace curriculum year 1: Atlas and books : The Kingfisher Atlas of the Ancient World The Visual Dictionary of Ancient Civilizations The Atlas of Ancient Civilizations The Atlas of the Ancient World The Kingfisher Book of Ancient World from the Ice Age to the Fall of Rome The Kingfisher History Encyclopedia The Big Book of Civilizations Questions and Answers: Ancient Civilizations Time Life Student Library: Ancient Civilizations Exploring History: Ancient Civilizations Ancient Civilizations : Discovering the People and Places of...

Weekly Wrap-Up

It's Saturday and time for reflecting on the week. I missed last week wrap-up due to a trip taken to Ottawa last week-end. So this will be a 2 week wrap-up. The past 2 weeks have been quite productive. We kept up with our subjects quite regularly. In TOG we concluded our study of Ancient China, India and America. This past week we watched videos about these ancient civilizations and made a cookie dough map of Ancient China and Ancient India. The boys did their Handwriting practice, which still need work, but I can see some improvement in the writing-hating boy my oldest is. They've also moved along in Math and English, phonics and Spelling. Last week-end they had fun skating on the Rideau Canal in Ottawa. This past week they've also enjoyed doing a few crafts. Proud of themselves: Another happening of the week was our playdate with another mom and her kids (whom we have not seen since mid-December due to our moved farther away from them). We met at the Science center and ha...
