Christian HomeSchool Hub {CHSH} - TOS Review

Homeschooling is a venture. As such we often need a lot of help on the way, and fortunately there is a lot of it available on the web to make this homeschool journey feasible. One of those is the Christian HomeSchool Hub, also referred to as CHSH-Teach.com. The crew was blessed with a one year subscription to the  CHSH Download club , which gives you unlimited access to everything on the site (over 50000 downloads) - a $25 value. There is also an option for a lifetime subscription. Now if you are a resource and curriculum junkie like me, you will want to check CHSH out! What is CHSH? CHSH is, as the name suggest, a hub where homeschoolers can find a wide array of helpful resources and material to use in their homeschool, as well as load of encouragement. A Neutral Education  : " Let me repeat: I am not saying that truth is unknowable. Instead I am saying that  we should approach claims on the part of a textbook and curriculum publisher to know the truth with great, great caution (not to say suspicion). God has not revealed His truth through publishers. He has revealed it within the context of a faithful, local worshipping community. In the past couple of weeks I have come across a few encouraging, challenging and interesting reads. Here is my selection for you this week: 6 Homeschooling Misconception Erased: " The next morning every reason I had to avoid homeschooling stared me in the face. So did my kids. They were eager to learn on their own terms." What Makes a Gifted Child : " Being gifted means a student has     that enable them to think on their own without help. Many people have good memory, the ability to interpret ideas and data, are creative, are practical, and interested in many things, but this does not make them gifted alone." Saying No to Social Media For Our kids : "Our children need our protection, wisdom and discipline.   I think a lot of parents cave into social media for their kids because "everyone else is doing it". And let's face it - it keeps the big kids quiet and occupied if they can stare at their phones and be connected 24/7." Pa...

Around the Web

I've decided to renew my weekly post about sharing posts that I find on the net which I enjoyed reading. For this week: Growing your Own Library Without Breaking your Budget 7 Things You Need When You're Overwhlemed and Can't Keep Up 10 Books That Have Made Me a Better Homeshool Mom How Classical Education Shapes us as God Intended. "The best of Christian thinking has always recognized we are pilgrims traveling to the city of God. While we have many joys and duties in this life, we understand present existence against the backdrop of our ultimate destiny as believers---to see God one day. Keeping one eye on heaven, or the vision of God, need not diminish the importance of life in the world. On the contrary, knowledge that life in the world is part of a larger and grander story---which culminates in the vision and city of God---can be a constant reminder that life in the here and now is important, meaningful, and weighty." Some Cool Astronomy Ressources

As I mentioned before I have been recently very interested  in the 4 fields of science and especially Astronomy. I am not a science geek, so this is way above my head, but I am determined to learn. Good thing my hubby is a chemist graduate . . . Also, in the course of studying A Child's Geography by Ann Voskamp, my 8 year old son, who already liked science, is developing a taste for more science knowledge discovery. So, while looking for answers for some of his questions, I stumbled upon these sites which I though were pretty cool (some new and some old): The KidsKnowIt from where you can end up @ KidsAstronomy.com Cool Cosmos Kidipede KidsKonnect.com NASA Science NASA Website ESA Kids (European Space Agency) NeoK12

Favorite Ressource This Week

I am joining in a new meme this week. The idea is to share our favorite resource of the week. For this week I have 2: A website where the boys have been spending a lot of time this week exploring history topics. They have been enjoying it a lot. http://www.bbc.co.uk/schools/primaryhistory/ A book series I just discovered called Usborne Young Reading . They have great classics titles. I was able to get Robinson Crusoe from the library. Unfortunately they do not carry many titles in the library. I am hoping more will soon be available. The stories are abridged, but nice. I find them good to introduce some classics that my sons might not be willing or so excited to try.

Link Treasures

It's been a while since my last Link Treasures post. As my followers will have noticed I do not post often nowadays and that is simply because I have not been spending as much time on the computer as I did before. As a consequence I have not been reading my google reader as much either. I found that I was spending way too much time at the computer when there are dishes waiting, books to be read and time to spend with the boys and outside, as well as preparing for DVBS of which I am the director this year. That said here are some posts that I have come across in the past few months which I thought I would share: 30 ways to Practice Spelling Words Just This 1 Thing 10 Quick Kitchen Organizing Tips 10 Containers to Reuse or Recycle for Craft Supplies Solving the Crisis in Homeschooling: a must read.
