A+ Tutorsoft - TOS Review

My first review for this crew year  is a math program from A+ Tutorsoft Inc . As I often say on this blog, Math is one of those subjects that we never have enough ressources to teach with, and to practice with, so receiving another Math program to review is always a gem. What is A+ Interactive MATH  ? As its name says it is an interactive Math program that serves as a tutor. It is a full-year interactive program which goal is to help students improve their grades in Math from Grade 1 to 6th, and pre-Algebra and Algebra levels as well. The program comes in 2 forms: 1) Software CD or  2) an online program. I received the online Homeschool Edition program  for grade 3 for review. First off this online program works on both Mac and PC and requires a high-speed internet connection. It is pretty easy to set up, all you need is your login information. How does it work? Everytime you log in you are taken to your workplace which consists of all your lessons on the lefthand space

Why Homeschool?

"Although this will mark my 6th year of homeschooling, I have never actually written a post on why homeschooling. I am thankful to Karyn @  Teach Beside Me  for the opportunity of talking about why we are homeschooling as a family. I came in contact with the concept of homeschooling when I was 23 and met a couple from Michigan who told me they were planning to homeschool their kids (they had 2 toddlers at the time). We were in Seminary and I was kind of "What?" "What is that?" I had never heard about it and surely did not know what it entailed. Their kids were still young, so . . ." Today, I am guess blogging on Karyn's blog (Teach Beside Me) as part of her Why Homeschool Series. So hop up over there to read the rest of this post.

Homeschool Mother Journal

Today is Friday, which means the end of a school week for us here. This has been a bit harder than usual. Joho has been covering a cold which I guess has been affecting his attention span so that school has been a bit hard on him this week. On top of that Joho is also suffering from recurring eczema. He had it pretty bad a few years ago and  had been doing quite well. But for the past month the eczema has been trying to come back. The fact that he excessively washes his hands  is making it even worst. Anyway thanks to God we made it through the week In our homeschool this week… We covered our regular subjects: Handwriting, History, Spelling, Writing, Grammar, Math and French. The reason why Joho is smiling in this picture is because they were doing a phonogram bingo. In History Zach was very happy to continue adding to his states' map and make 2 more president cards. In spelling we had a bit of a longer week going over the various ways of spelling the broad

Weekly Wrap-up

Another week is over. It seems that the weeks are flying by so quickly since we the year started. We had a good week of school accomplishing the usual subject: Math, Handwriting, Science, Spelling, Grammar and History. This week we tackled China and Japan in our History. I was glad to have discovered this site this week in relation to our study this week: National Geographic Education . The new thing for tis week was starting French using French dailies from Schoolhouse Teacher s website. If you have not visited Schoolhouse Teacher make sure you do, this site is full of homeschool help on every possible homeschool school subjects. The attempt at drawing in the picture came from Schoolhouse Teachers dailies as well. We were blessed with snow all day today, so dad and I took the boys out to play in it. The boys in capes here represent their version of hobbits. Zach is creating stories after stories of hobbits adventures, and Joho is quite happy to join the party.

Homeschoolers love to encourage one another and this is true as well when it comes to blogging homeschoolers. They give each other awards to encourage each other to keep up blogging about our adventures. The Homeschool Mother Journal and Friday Collage

It's Friday and time for a school recap. I missed last week's recap for this is a run down of the last 2 weeks. In our Homeschool . . . Our school has been going smoothly: Handwriting: doing the next thing. Grammar: moving along in Practice Town Writing: we've almost completed the first part of Paragraph Town. We have learned quite a few things about the paragraph: need for order, clarity, and logic, the different kinds of paragraph. Math: Joho is working on a review product. So far so good. It is mainly review for him, even though it is a grade higher than his official grade level,  but it helps solidify what he knows. I am continuing decimals with Zach and some problem solving. History: we are wrapping up unit 2 of TOG with the Gold Rush after talking about the Oregon Trail last week. Zach can't wait to get to the Civil War part. Spelling: we are still enjoying the Logic of English . The boys especially enjoy the games (as seen on the picture
