Weekly Wrap-Up


It's Friday and time for another Weekly Wrap-up at  Weird Unsocialized Homeschoolers.


Another week of school has gone by,  and we are still doing reasonably well. Not too much complaining but still lagging. It takes him forever to do his math. FLL is the only subject he enjoys and does quickly. But we do get through and he does get time to watch his videos and play. We go to the playground almost daily.


The highlight of this week was our science. Zach's been very interested in science, so I had decided to include a science curriculum and we got to it this week. Thanks to the Not Back-to School blog hop hosted by Darcy, I came across this great FREE Life Science curriculum called Classic Science . The reason why I decided to go with that instead of let's say Apologia, is because I did no think Zach was ready to follow a long and rigorous curriculum. I have been very interested in Apologia but decided that I would not use it for the elementary years.


The first, Life Science, of the 4 series ( which includes Physical Science, Chemistry and Earth Science), is free so you could take a look at it and experiment it as you wish. I liked what I was reading. It is short, concise, full of information and appealing. The information quality is not sacrificed in any way, yet very understandable for a 6 year old. Each chapter has activities, and/or experiments to do, which gives it a hand-on approach as well.


Suffice to say, Zach is liking it. The teacher's manual, which come with the student text, recommends to do a chapter per week, Zach has been wanting to do a new chapter everyday. Once we complete this series, I will probably get the Physical Science one, which would cost about $50 for both the student and the teacher's manual.

That looks like a lot of fun for all. I love how excited the kids get about science when they are young. It is so much fun to see their faces light up! I held off on Apologia until year 3, we are using the exploring creation series by Jeannie Fulbright. I would recommend it for your boys in a couple of years, especially if you can find it pretty cheap.

Veritas Press Self-Paced History - TOS Review

Veritas Press  is a long lasting Christian classical homeschool curriculum company. They have served the homeschool communities for a long time. Our latest review items was a gem. We received a DVD from the Dive Into Your Imagination series. If you have never heard about it, I am here to tell you about it.
