Weekly Wrap-Up

This week was a typical homeschooling week where we got to experience what homeschooling means, and the freedom it gives.

First we had a nice evening at the EX on Monday. Why only evening you may ask, well it is $5 instead of $12. Plus on Mondays the kids are $2. So we got in for $14, not a bad deal. The only problem is that you pay for most things inside, so I call it a money trap, but that's another topic.

Joho had a blast with the rides. But not Zach. He does not like and does not do rides!! Good things there were other things to see. Here is a sample in pictures.

Then, Tuesday turned into a disciplining day. Instead of doing school, Zach spent his day in his bedroom. You can read about that here. Since then, I decided that his train track will stay packed away until Monday, with his behaviour the rest of the week affecting that decicion towards a longer or shorter time.

Wednesday, we did school as usual with some more cooperation.

Thursday, we covered the planned subjects, but our Math was a bit different. He was having a hard time with his assignment so I closed the book, and did some one to one assessment to see where he was at. He understood quite a few concepts, but the thing is that he thinks differently. He is a conceptual, global thinker, and they tend to have a hard time with facts. He does not do well with operations either. So Friday turned into a diferent schooling day as well, as I decided to just focus on Math for the school day. We had an interesting time figuring things out and reviewing math fatcs.

I found a couple of sites to help me find ways to see how his mind works and teach him in a way that will make sense to him:

MathCats , IXL Math and Eduplace

One new thing that happened this week was that we got to start our Latin. Zach seems to be ok with it.

Joho did well this week. He did everything he needed to, and was off to play. He is my "more by the book" child, although he can be a handfull.

So, even though we did not have a typical week, and all the subjects did not get covered we had a productive week.Make sure to read some more weekly Wrap-ups at Weird Unsocialized Homeschoolers.

I love how you play with your children. I also love how you tailor their school work to meet their needs, not the other way around. I really enjoy reading about your week.

We figured out this week that my 13 year old does so much better with his Algebra if he is working out his problems on the white board, instead of on paper. Doing busy work drives him nuts, so working at the whiteboard has him up a moving a tad. Plus he can SEE his work.

Our Current Homeschool Routine - Virtual Homeschool Fair - Week 2

For week 2 of the Virtual Homeschool Fair, which is hosted by Homeschooling Hearts and Minds , we are talking method of homeschooling. When it comes to the how of homeschooling, and the method that we all follow, with the 20 plus blogger participating I can guarantee you, no method will be the same. Homeschooling is a lifestyle and a path unto a goal or toward a direction that each family sets for itself. For us, this encompasses academic rigor, as well as Christian values and depth of understanding of how to live in this world as Christians. To that end, earlier on we had settled on a classical education. 10 years into it, I cannot say we have been very good classical homeshooler. We did not follow the method and philosophy to a T but instead adapted it to our family's routine and rhythm. We became more relaxed classical homeschooler. I had good intentions with the Latin and Greek, but not enough discipline and it did not appeal to the boys; my oldest son did two years, the...

2019-2020 Curriculum Line Up- Grade 11 and Grade 9

Happy New Year to all! After a two year hiatus, I am resurrecting this blog. Life has been such that keeping up with this blog had become a really low priority, but I kind of miss it, so here I am giving it a try again. First I realized I never posted about my kids' curriculum line up for this school year. So, though late, here it is. This year I am homeschooling two high-schoolers. Time has gone so fast. With a 14 year old (9th grade) and a 16 year old (11th grade) I really feel like time is sleeping away; but that is the reality of life. We are but a vapor... Homeschooling - A Glimpse into How We Do it

2016 was a pretty skimpy blogging year for me. Ask me why, I am not sure I have an answer for you beside life happening and writing inspiration fading. With a new year upon us I will try to get back on the blogging scene and what best topic to start the year with than giving you a glimpse into what homeschooling looks like in our home with now two teenagers. In the past 4 years I have enjoyed participating in the Virtual Curriculum Fair hosted by Homechooling Hearts and Minds , so I am happy to start my year participating once more. For those who are not familiar with the Virtual Curiculum Fair, it is a month long series of posts, where over 20 homeschoolers share about their homeschool curriculum and how they homeschool.
