This week was a typical homeschooling week where we got to experience what homeschooling means, and the freedom it gives.
First we had a nice evening at the EX on Monday. Why only evening you may ask, well it is $5 instead of $12. Plus on Mondays the kids are $2. So we got in for $14, not a bad deal. The only problem is that you pay for most things inside, so I call it a money trap, but that's another topic.
Joho had a blast with the rides. But not Zach. He does not like and does not do rides!! Good things there were other things to see. Here is a sample in pictures.
Then, Tuesday turned into a disciplining day. Instead of doing school, Zach spent his day in his bedroom. You can read about that here. Since then, I decided that his train track will stay packed away until Monday, with his behaviour the rest of the week affecting that decicion towards a longer or shorter time.
Wednesday, we did school as usual with some more cooperation.
Thursday, we covered the planned subjects, but our Math was a bit different. He was having a hard time with his assignment so I closed the book, and did some one to one assessment to see where he was at. He understood quite a few concepts, but the thing is that he thinks differently. He is a conceptual, global thinker, and they tend to have a hard time with facts. He does not do well with operations either. So Friday turned into a diferent schooling day as well, as I decided to just focus on Math for the school day. We had an interesting time figuring things out and reviewing math fatcs.
I found a couple of sites to help me find ways to see how his mind works and teach him in a way that will make sense to him:
MathCats , IXL Math and Eduplace
One new thing that happened this week was that we got to start our Latin. Zach seems to be ok with it.
Joho did well this week. He did everything he needed to, and was off to play. He is my "more by the book" child, although he can be a handfull.
So, even though we did not have a typical week, and all the subjects did not get covered we had a productive week.Make sure to read some more weekly Wrap-ups at Weird Unsocialized Homeschoolers.
