We had another typical week of school this week.
School subjects got done Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday. Not as many as usual, but I am a somewhat relaxed homeschooler that tries to add as much classical and Charlotte Masson as possible in her schedule.
So, we've covered Math, still struggling through these Subtractions with renaming. I have decided to take it back to the beginning and as a matter of fact I get so frustrated with Zach that we decided that dad is going to do math for a little while. That would mean me definitely waking up early so that we have breakfast early enough for dad to do Math before he goes to work at 9:00. I am not a Math person, so as much as I can explain how do do Math to Zach I can not explain math as a discipline. Zach thinks that math is complete non sense. I think it springs from his outside the box way of thinking and his not liking of rules and established conventions. So, let's hope dad can make a dent in his brain.
We also covered some English, not much though., handwriting, copy work, reading and Bible. Yesterday we were able to complete our week 7 of TOG. Zach decided to make a model of the Tabernacle using toothpicks and marshmallows (he happened to be eating Hot cocoa and marshmallow while I was reading the material to them). So, I let him do.
Thursday was elective and they had a good time.
The highlight of the week was our trip to the Toronto Zoo on Monday. A friend generously gave us some free passes that were expiring on Monday which she was not going to use, so we took advantage. It was a great day. It was supposed to rain but God was merciful and we had a nice cool sunny day to enjoy the long walks and the wonderful animals. I also discovered a nice treat called Beaver tails. My Canadian readers might know what it is, if not they should investigate ;-).
Tired from all the walking and races:
Here is my faint version of a beaver tail, since we all liked it:
Let me not forget to mention that the boys, instigated by Joho, have decided to learn how to play chess, thanks to this website Chesskid.com. They have been having much fun, and not so much fun, trying to play together and discover the game, with mom and dad trying to coach a bit.

I love the way your son built the Tabernacle model out of marshmallows. This would have been a great *planned* idea, but the fact that it was spontaneous and was *his* idea . . . double kudos on that one!
Looks like, aside from math, y'all had a great week! :)
I found your entry interesting thus I've added a Trackback to it on my weblog :)...
