In my life this week…
I missed last week entry so this is going to be a 2-weeks review.
I have been listening to audios from The Ultimate Schoolhouse Expo and they have been a tremendous blessing and source of encouragement. I can't tell you enough about the selection of speakers and the words of wisdom that are flowing from their lips.
I have been challenged to trust more in God, to have a vision, to trust in God's providence and sovereignty in the lives of my children and to think of homeschooling as more that the books and the now.
In our homeschool this week…
In the past two weeks we have been busy keeping up with our History studies as we will only be finishing unit 3 of TOG next week. We have been studying classical Greece, which the boys are really enjoying. They have been having fun acting out the Persian wars as well as the Peloponnasian Wars, Drama, Ancient Greek style, and of course the regular archeological trips to the different historical places all within our Apartment.
In Science we have finished our Physics from Real Science 4 Kids. The kids really enjoyed it. They also enjoyed watching a couple of Videos on the subjects called They've watched it so many times that they can recite it to you and love making up experiments about gravity, mass, inertia and speed. They are really funny to watch.
We have now started a Biology and Life Science study.

The boys have also been enjoying acting out animal defenses.
In Math we are doing some review and tackled Time, which they seem to be able to grasp. Last week we studied Fractions which was not to difficult. for them
In English I have started First Language Lessons 1 with Joho and this seems to go over much better than when I tried to start it last fall.
Zach is almost done with his BJU English 2.
We've also been covering Handwriting, Latin, Spelling and gone back to our daily Geography which I had kind of put aside.
My favorite thing this week was…
Last week was the last session of our elective classes and it was fun. The boys really enjoyed going to electives. We were supposed to start soccer this week but Thursday was a rainy day so it got canceled. The funny part was the weather eventually cleared so I took the boys out to ride on their bikes and they were able to ride their 2-wheels bike for the first time. I was so excited.
What’s working/not working for us…
In the past 2 weeks I have created some new rules for the boys to follow in regard to computer time, tv and video time as well as reading time. My oldest has no problem reading at night time (he's been enjoying audios of The Chronicles of Narnia), but he does not like to read during the day. Also, I found it hard to keep them from wanting to be on the computer every chance they had.So, I decided that I would limit their time with media to a certain amount of time daily and also require them to do 1 hour worth of reading everyday. My youngest complies a bit more to this that my oldest but hopefully it will become second nature to both. They idea is for them to understand that work and reading are take precedence over computer and entertainment.

We've had the issue with computer time as well. They have several education games and websites that the children are allowed to play and I am probably going to have to come up with some rules or precedence to preclude computer time, since they tend to get lost on it and I usually feel guilty whenever I know they are actually learning something. I like the idea to require 1 hour of reading for computer time, though... that's something that might work! Thanks for sharing!
