ABC's of Homeschooling - Q and R

We are nearing the end of the ABC's of Homeschooling over @ 5 Kids and a Dog. It's been fun to think of all these words related to homeschooling using the alphabet.

As usual I have to make up for last week, so first of:

Q is for Questions:

I picked questions because that is on of the aspect of homeschooling I love. We get to ask lots of questions and, best of all, we get to look for the answers and usually find them. When we homeschooling I find that there is more time to ponder on topics and thoughts which in turn gives rise to questions. My boys always ask lots of questions on many different topics, from stuff they read in their books, from our history readings, from science (rarely from math because they are not so much into Math), and the list goes on.

R is for Realistic

When we homeschooling I belive that we have to remain realistic. There are so many things I want to do, so many things I want the boys to learn and do. But, I have to constantly remind myself that there is so much I can accomplish in a day, there is so much the boys can assimilate and learn in one session, or at their level. It is planning time here at our house, and this is something that I have to keep in the back of my mind. I must remain realistic of how much we can handle in a day and be ready to adjust to the reality when it sets in. Again, one of the beauty of homeschooling is that we do not have to do things the way so and so does. Each homeschooling mom has to find that most appropriate, most challenging and engaging path, all the while remaining realistic about what can be done, how and at which pace.

Reformation Day Giveaway

We are approaching October 31, which is an important date for all protestants. This date commemorates Martin Luther’s nailing of his ninety-five theses to a church door on October 31, 1517 in Wittenburg, Germany, which in turn provoked a debate that resulted in what we now call the Protestant Reformation. As the “Father of the Reformation”, Martin Luther is a vital figure in Church History. His sacrifice and willingness to wage battle against the spiritual, religious, and political powers of his medieval world allowed Christians throughout time to embrace the following truths: salvation by grace alone , through faith alone,  and in Christ alone, along with the supremacy of Scripture, referred to as  Scripture alone, and all of it for God's Glory Alone. These being commonly called the Five Solas of the Reformation.  Danika Cooley, author and creator of the Bible curriculum Bible Road Trip ,  has recently written a book for young people recounting Luther's sto...
