Another week has come to an end. It's been 5 weeks since we started school and things are going well overall.
We are in the last stretch of our Grammar Island. The boys enjoyed doing the book. We will soon start the Practice Island book to cement all the concepts covered in GI. First Language Lessons is moving along as well. Same story goes for Writing with Ease, although somehow we got behind a week, but that's ok because if need to I do not have a problem skipping a narration or copywork.
Math, we have been doing some practice problems and the boys seems to be doing well. Zach is so much more responsive to the no workbook approach, even if I still give him worksheets to do.
In music appreciation, we looked at Johann Sebastian Bach and listened to Well Tempered Clavier.
In history we delved into Vikings times and the boys had a blast. I think I have like 25 books about Vikings in the house. (I am putting together a list of extra resources we use along side TOG. I'll probably post it at the end of each unit. The one I put together for year one was quite long and I did not even start it from the beginning of the Year.)
We enjoyed reading The ABC's of Continents, watched a new to us nature science video Series that I got at the library, Animal Atlas, (even was able to get one at Walmart in buffalo for $4.88).
We had a nice day out on Thursday, all the way (11/2) hour) to the Museum of Science and Technology in Buffalo. it was lots of fun.
Jojo's favorite animal:
A 2000+ old tree trunk: The boys were so excited to read the events listed on the timeline , it rang bells (thanks TOG).
Machines in motion. An exhibit of Leonardo Da Vinci's work:
Create your own: a K'nex hands-on activity. I want a bucket for the boys . . .
and dad . . .
Cell puzzle:
Earth in motion:
And that was our week in a nutshell.
