Weekly Wrap-Up

It's time to  stop and do a wrap-up of what has been happening at our house.

Since my last weekly wrap-up, Zach had his project fair presentation which went well.

We've done our regular school subjects,

We've done art,

We've gone to the Zoo,

We have read some pretty cool books,

We have had character issues to deal with.

We started our spring elective session, in which I am teaching cooking.

We've enjoyed a new history DVD series within our studies of the 13 colonies, called Colonial Life for Children.

Also, last week-end, I caught my oldest writing of his own will, something he refuses to do and DOES NOT DO. His usual complaint about writing is, "why can't we write with scribbles?". I can see hope for the future, although I found out about dysgraphia this week and think that he might have this condition. I will have to investigate further.

Lastly, but just as important, I have been looking more closely into our curriculum line up for next school year. So far I've got, TOG, Michael Thompson, Real Science 4 Kids, Handwriting Without Tears, and continue with Math On the Level. I have been looking into Jr. Analytical Grammar and would appreciate any thoughtson this program.

And that's in a nutshell the main happenings here. Off we are tomorrow on an overnight trip to Montreal. A timely trip,  given we just learned about Champlain and New France this week,

Reformation Day Giveaway

We are approaching October 31, which is an important date for all protestants. This date commemorates Martin Luther’s nailing of his ninety-five theses to a church door on October 31, 1517 in Wittenburg, Germany, which in turn provoked a debate that resulted in what we now call the Protestant Reformation. As the “Father of the Reformation”, Martin Luther is a vital figure in Church History. His sacrifice and willingness to wage battle against the spiritual, religious, and political powers of his medieval world allowed Christians throughout time to embrace the following truths: salvation by grace alone , through faith alone,  and in Christ alone, along with the supremacy of Scripture, referred to as  Scripture alone, and all of it for God's Glory Alone. These being commonly called the Five Solas of the Reformation.  Danika Cooley, author and creator of the Bible curriculum Bible Road Trip ,  has recently written a book for young people recounting Luther's sto...
