School is almost out for the season. We are dragging it another 3 days and then it's party time, at least for the boys! You know how it goes, for us homeschool moms, break time is really planning time, isn't? I have lots of planning to do for the coming year's school schedule. Since we came back from our vacation in November I have not been doing all of the subjects I really want to cover, so it's time for a new plan.
But, that put aside, what happened this week? Let's see...
But, that put aside, what happened this week? Let's see...
- The boy's cantata at church went well, praise God. They both had a solo part and did quite well. On the picture they are the boys at both extremities.
- We've pressed on in Handwriting
- We've started a new spelling curriculum, which I am really excited about: The Logic of English. Watch for a review of it sometime in January.
- We've covered estimating or rounding, multiplying decimals, place value including decimals and continued practicing long divisions.
- We've read our literature books from Tapestry if Grace, watched a movie from the History Channel on the American-Mexican War, learned about Davy Crockett - that was fun as I was recalling watching the show growing up (I really liked it). Here in Canada we can't find much library books on the Alamo and this time in History for kids, so it has been a challenge but somehow we are getting a good idea of the time period.
- We've been doing some astronomy study from Exploring God's Creation which a friend of mine gave me last year.
- We've continued on practicing identifying gerunds, infinitives and participials with Zach, I think he is ready now to get back to Practice Town in the new year. With Joho we've been working on nouns and pronouns as well as plurals.
The highlight of the week was our night out at the drive-in on Thursday to watch The Hobbit ahead of its opening day, the 14th. We all loved it. The boys have been reading it this month and said they are liking the book better, but loved watching the movie.
So that was our week in a snapshot. for more wrap-up head on over to Weird Unsocialized Homeschoolers or Friday Collage.
