A Look Back @ 2012

I sort of took a break from my blog during the Christmas / New Year weeks, as this time tends to get rather busy with church activities and gatherings, and because of that I was not able to link up with the TOS crew blog cruise focusing on reviewing our year 2012.

That said, as I was thinking about it I figured it is still rather early in 2013, and so a post like this is still quite relevant, and most of all, allows for me to record and go over this past year's main events.

There it goes:
  • Joho started piano in January and has progressed so well that as of next week he will be starting grade 2.
  • Thanks to my accident around Christmas last year, we inherited a new car last January and we love it! Same model as the previous one, just newer.
  • My hubby who got really sick (near death) back in 2008 and has been on medication since then (steroids and immune system suppressants), was told in December that he can start reducing his last med standing. The goal: to be off completely by December 2014. Praise GOD!
  • We took a family trip to the Philippines where my hubby is from, and had a great time with family.

  • I have developed an interest in apologetics which has led me to a lot of growth on the topic.
  • This year also marked the first time I spent more than a day (2 weeks to be exact) away from my husband - as he had to go to CA for school. We all survived!
  • This year was my first time at a drive-in watching movies. I really like it and this has become a family thing now. Watched The Hobbit on December 14 in the cold and all. Great time!
  • Went to my first Christmas Cookie Exchange.
  • Zach has just took off with his love of History, and has become quite an historian. I can hardly keep up.
  • Zach has also started not seeing writing as such a bad enemy, which makes doing spelling much easier.
  • Joho lost his first teeth (2).
  • Over the year the boys enjoyed:
  • playing volleyball, basketball and soccer
  • A trip to Marineland, Montreal and to Ottawa
  • camping and canoeing
  • learning how to swim.
  • numerous zoo trips
All in all we had a wonderful year filled with God's blessings! All glory to Him!

Hi Joelle! Looks like you've been up to a lot recently. I'm so glad your husband may possibly be medication free by 2014. I had no idea he had been so ill back in 2008.

I love your family photo!

Blessings to you!

Writing & Rhetoric - A Writing Curriculum Review and a Giveaway

Curriculum choosing and buying can be a very daunting task. So many subjects to cover, so many curriculum to browse though, and so many companies to consider. Today I would like to share with you a product and a company that I have come to hold in high regards. When it comes to teaching writing to the boys I was not sure which way to go, as I would not exactly consider myself a great writer. Then came along Writing and Rhetoric from Classical Academic Press. I heard about it when the second book in a series of twelve just released, and I was immediately intrigued. You see I homeschool classically, and writing is an integral part of it. Classical Academic Press puts out products geared towards classical homeschooling, so there you had  the first common ground. I was searching for something that would teach them what writing was, and guide them through the process incrementally, without bombarding them with pages and pages of writing right from the start. I found what...

Our Current Homeschool Routine - Virtual Homeschool Fair - Week 2

For week 2 of the Virtual Homeschool Fair, which is hosted by Homeschooling Hearts and Minds , we are talking method of homeschooling. When it comes to the how of homeschooling, and the method that we all follow, with the 20 plus blogger participating I can guarantee you, no method will be the same. Homeschooling is a lifestyle and a path unto a goal or toward a direction that each family sets for itself. For us, this encompasses academic rigor, as well as Christian values and depth of understanding of how to live in this world as Christians. To that end, earlier on we had settled on a classical education. 10 years into it, I cannot say we have been very good classical homeshooler. We did not follow the method and philosophy to a T but instead adapted it to our family's routine and rhythm. We became more relaxed classical homeschooler. I had good intentions with the Latin and Greek, but not enough discipline and it did not appeal to the boys; my oldest son did two years, the...

2019-2020 Curriculum Line Up- Grade 11 and Grade 9

Happy New Year to all! After a two year hiatus, I am resurrecting this blog. Life has been such that keeping up with this blog had become a really low priority, but I kind of miss it, so here I am giving it a try again. First I realized I never posted about my kids' curriculum line up for this school year. So, though late, here it is. This year I am homeschooling two high-schoolers. Time has gone so fast. With a 14 year old (9th grade) and a 16 year old (11th grade) I really feel like time is sleeping away; but that is the reality of life. We are but a vapor...
