2020/2021 School Year Plans

For many school is well underway! I realized I never posted about our plans for this year. So here is a run down of our plans for this year.

This year I have a 10th grade and a hybrid 11/12 grader. Why hybrid 11/12, because technically he should be graduating next Spring, but I am extending his high school 1/2 to 1 year longer to get in all those credits needed.

As has been the case for the last few years, our main curriculum will be Tapestry of Grace (TOG) with an online co-op. These are the subjects we will be covering:
I put together an art elective from the Fine Art strand of TOG year 2 and year 3 with a couple units from the Lifepac Arts elective.  I call it: Art from the Southern Renaissance to the end of the Nineteenth Century
  • Science : we are trying the new Masterbooks Biology curriculum
  • Math : we are continuing with Lifepac Math. Zach has been doing Geometry and Algebra II, alternating them, so will complete both this year Lord willing. Johann will be doing Algebra II (geometry was completed last year.) He is thinking of computer science so the goal is for him get to Calculus in grade 12.
  • Health from Lifepac. Zach completed it last year and Johann will be working on it this year.
  • French: Breaking the Barrier and Duolingo, both online.

During the summer, Zach worked through two courses from Crashcourse on YouTube: Economy and Film. I also had Johann work from the Intro to Computer Science.

I also have a preschooler in the house with whom we are working through some of our MANY Usborne books covering reading, writing and science, as well as some Costco Preschool workbooks.

And there you have our homeschool plans.... What are you all using?

Reformation Day Giveaway

We are approaching October 31, which is an important date for all protestants. This date commemorates Martin Luther’s nailing of his ninety-five theses to a church door on October 31, 1517 in Wittenburg, Germany, which in turn provoked a debate that resulted in what we now call the Protestant Reformation. As the “Father of the Reformation”, Martin Luther is a vital figure in Church History. His sacrifice and willingness to wage battle against the spiritual, religious, and political powers of his medieval world allowed Christians throughout time to embrace the following truths: salvation by grace alone , through faith alone,  and in Christ alone, along with the supremacy of Scripture, referred to as  Scripture alone, and all of it for God's Glory Alone. These being commonly called the Five Solas of the Reformation.  Danika Cooley, author and creator of the Bible curriculum Bible Road Trip ,  has recently written a book for young people recounting Luther's story:   When
