Circle time

I finally come around to write this post on our new homeschool addition: Circle time

Reading different blogs I came across this concept of having the kids doing some learning time together with mom. This often took the form of a circle time.

So here is how it goes. Before we go into our formal school subjects, or in the case of Joho, to his activities, we gather on the sofa and do the following:

Sing a song - I use you tube where they can see the words and sing along.

Read either a poem, a bible story or a classic read-aloud

We go over house rule, or discuss a character trait

Study and practice some french

Here is how I schedule these activities for the week:

Circle Time

Here is the list of books I use for this time:

Character Trait:

Teach Them to Your Children: An Alphabet of Biblical Poems, Verses, and Stories

This list

Poem:

A Treasury of Children's Poems

Classic Read-aloud:

Books by Virginia Lee Burton

Just So Stories,

101 More Read-Aloud Classics: Ten-Minute Readings from the World's Best-Loved Children's Books

 Bible stories:

100 Bible Heroes, 100 Bible Songs

French:

Play and Learn French

So far it has been going pretty well, although sometimes Joho is not cooperative, but in the whole it has been a nice addition. We have been learning and discussing quite a few things that sometimes get missed during the day. Zach likes this time together and he gets to talk and say what is on his mind regarding the things that we read.

Have a great day,

Reformation Day Giveaway

We are approaching October 31, which is an important date for all protestants. This date commemorates Martin Luther’s nailing of his ninety-five theses to a church door on October 31, 1517 in Wittenburg, Germany, which in turn provoked a debate that resulted in what we now call the Protestant Reformation. As the “Father of the Reformation”, Martin Luther is a vital figure in Church History. His sacrifice and willingness to wage battle against the spiritual, religious, and political powers of his medieval world allowed Christians throughout time to embrace the following truths: salvation by grace alone , through faith alone,  and in Christ alone, along with the supremacy of Scripture, referred to as  Scripture alone, and all of it for God's Glory Alone. These being commonly called the Five Solas of the Reformation.  Danika Cooley, author and creator of the Bible curriculum Bible Road Trip ,  has recently written a book for young people recounting Luther's sto...
