It's been quite a while since my last weekly wrap-up so I thought it would be good to give an update as to what my boys have been up too.
School wise we are moving along in our different subjects. Since Zach has finished his Singapore Primary Math A, I decided to give a try to this curriculum called Professor B (which is the curriculum that comes before Life of Fred). So far I am pleased with it. Do not ask my son, he does not like doing anything that requires effort, diligence and focus. I can see the potential of this curriculum though. I was hoping to complete it with both boys at the same time, but unfortunately that was short lived. Joho decided it was too much for him, so so far, it is just Zach and I. I plan on continuing with professor B until June, and then do Professor B in conjunction with Singapore Primary Math B when we start back in August.
First Language Lessons is slow going but I am really hoping to finish it by June, so that we can move on to something else in August.
I have started doing spelling again, since it seems that Zach has forgotten all the spelling that he had acquired without my help. He resists it, but I think we are going somewhere. I use the board with minimal writing on his part.
We only have 2 lessons left in his Daily Geography so we actually have not done any recently. For his reading, he has been reading to me a paragraph or two at a time from Huckleberry Finn.
Science is Zach's favorite subject now, and we have been continuing on with Classic Science. We have just completed unit 6. On top of that, I have purchased Aha Science, through the Homeschoolbuyer.com site at 60%off, and the boys have been really enjoying it. They explored, speed, electricity, magnets, rocks and minerals, forces and simple machines.
While I am here, I will also mentioned the site Brainpop, which my kids have been enjoying as free trials. They really like it but the subscription price is rather prohibitive for us, so I am wrecking my brain now as to what to do. On there, Zach has been able to explore some social study topics like the making of law, the president, the army forces and some science and health topics as well.
Their newest play toy is a set of army stuff, which they got as a reward (Zach for a very good violin recital, a couple of weeks ago, and Joho for succeeding in his month long endeavour to stay in his bed throughout the night).
Also, we are in our 3rd week of our electives with our homeschool group. Zach has been enjoying doing Gym, Art and science experiment. I have been assigned a French class and gym for the preschoolers.
The past few weeks have also seen us going outdoor more with the weather getting really nice. We have finally been able to do some nature walks which the boys have really been enjoying.
We also have been continuing with our audiobooks, of which I talked about here. They tend to listen to them over and over and over again. Here are some titles that they have enjoyed and are enjoying at the moment:
Beady Bear
Cordoroy
Can't you Sleep Little Bear
The Story of Ferdinand
Winnie the Pooh
Paddle to the Sea
Heidi
The Swiss Family Robinson
Tom Sawyer (currently)
Zach is still in his police and law enforcement phase with the addition of lawyers and law, judges, president, mayor, and army forces .
I guess that's about what our learning is about these these days. For more learning happening visit Weird Unsocialized homeschoolers.
Sorry for the long post, lots's been happening since my last weekly wrap-up . . .
Have a great day,
