Reading List for the Coming School Year

Since my 2nd grader reads way above grade level, for this year I have decided to not buy any reading curriculum but just focus on actual reading. So I am compiling a reading list for him. He is starting on it already. A lot of it he will read while listening to the audiobook because he is not a big fiction book lover, he much rather reads fact books.

As I mentioned before I will try to have him narrate some of the chapters, or the whole book to me. As well, I will use our history literature line up books from TOG to have him practice reading aloud.

Zach's reading list for 2010-2011

Charlotte's Web
Stuart Little
The Little Prince
Peter Pan
When the Sidewalk Ends (repeat)
The Courage of Sarah Noble
Chronicles of Narnia
The Hobbit
The 3 Musketeers
Robin Hood
Robinson Crusoe
Lancelot
The Story of King Arthur
Aladin
Pilgrim's Progress (children's version)
The adventures of Tom Sawyer (repeat)
The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn (repeat)

Here is our starter list. Follow us as I will add them to the Literature Corner page of the blog as we go through them.

We of course always have pictures books at home too. . .

You have a great book list. I never did a reading curriculum with my oldest either. As soon as she was done with phonics, she read books.

Those are great books. I've never used a reading curriculum either. Your son is reading well above grade level for him to be able to read some of these!

Reformation Day Giveaway

We are approaching October 31, which is an important date for all protestants. This date commemorates Martin Luther’s nailing of his ninety-five theses to a church door on October 31, 1517 in Wittenburg, Germany, which in turn provoked a debate that resulted in what we now call the Protestant Reformation. As the “Father of the Reformation”, Martin Luther is a vital figure in Church History. His sacrifice and willingness to wage battle against the spiritual, religious, and political powers of his medieval world allowed Christians throughout time to embrace the following truths: salvation by grace alone , through faith alone,  and in Christ alone, along with the supremacy of Scripture, referred to as  Scripture alone, and all of it for God's Glory Alone. These being commonly called the Five Solas of the Reformation.  Danika Cooley, author and creator of the Bible curriculum Bible Road Trip ,  has recently written a book for young people recounting Luther's sto...
