For by grace you have been saved through faith, and this not of yourselves it is the gift of God, not of works, so that no one can boast. Ephesians 2:8-9

My Top Ten Advice on Homeschooling

So I am no expert at homeschooling. I know there are way more seasoned, experienced homeschoolers out there, but I thought I would just share the things that I think make the homeschooling journey smoother.

1. Have a mission statement and set goals.

2 . Be attentive to your kids, listen to them and pay attention to their learning styles, struggles, and need for correction.

3. Reasearch curriculum extensively, read reviews and look at samples as much as possible

4. Plan for your year, by the year, the weeks, the semester, or whatever time frame you choose.  Whatever you do, have some form of planning.

5. Keep loose and flexible. Allow for change of pace. Allow for character training time (especially the ones that need to be done right in the middle of school time).

6. Plan fieldtrips

7. Plan days, or weeks off.

8. Spice up the daily routine with games, or videos or computer.

9. Enroll in 1 or 2 extra curricula according to finances and time. Do not over commit and be wise.

10. Pray, pray, pray.

Those are great points Joelle. Ones that "veteran" homeschoolers and new ones alike can benefit from.

BTW, I tagged you on my blog.

Thanks for these tips! This is our first year homeschooling, and we're always looking for tips and tricks from those more seasoned than us.

I have to keep reminding myself that we don't have a rigorous schedule to follow and if we're having a tough day, we can always pick up where we left off tomorrow. =)

I've also learned that we need to start each day off with prayer (together!), and I remember to pray that we will listen to each other.....cuz I need to remember to listen to my little ones as much as I want them to listen to me!

Happy iFellowship!
