The letter for the week is H and I have picked the word HEART.
I chose this word because I believe that our main task as mothers and especially homeschoolers is to teach our kid's heart. Of course we want to give our children a good education (I almost picked that one for last week's letter G), but that is not the ultimate goal of the education I want to give our kids.
One of the blessings of having our kids at Home (another H word) with us is that amazing opportunity to minister to their hearts, all day long. If they were in school the primary influence on their hearts would be school, peers, teachers etc.., and that because these would be where they would be most of the day. When they are here with me I can take every opportunity that arises to point them to Christ and minister to their heart, to their need of a saviour and to a higher goal and Hope (another H word).
I want my boys to have a great education but not at the cost of losing what is most important: living for Christ and fulfilling our calling in this world as God defines it, not as the world defines it. Both of these are not mutually exclusive, but need to be present for it to be a balance education, and one that pleases the Lord.
The best way for them to get a vision of the fact that their lives do not belong to them but to their creator is to minister to their heart. the best way for them to use wisely whatever gifts God has bestowed on their is to nurture their heart. The best way for them to use whatever knowledge their would acquire over the year of learning is for their hearts to be attuned to God's view of the world and of who we are in this world as well as our God given purpose.
How to I do that?
- by modeling it to them: this is where I fail and where I need so much grace (my word for last week), but it is so important.
- by teaching them about God and about who they are in relation to God
- by giving them a worldview and framework about life, and I do not mean sheltering them but helping them understand the world around them which means exposure and teaching.
- by giving them a rich well rounded education that always points and makes connections to matters of the heart and mind (that's an aspect that I love about Tapestry of Grace).
I pray that the Lord would help me minister to the heart of my children effectively and for His glory.

I ask you to visit it and see what it has to offer. The first post “The Furniture of the Human Mind” will explain the site and hopefully you will look around.
Thank You
