My Word for 2013

Today is the 4th day into 2013 and have I done anything different from last year at the same time? Well sort of. I have decided to follow the McCheyne's Reading Bible plan and to join in the 100 verses in 2013 challenge which goal is to memorize 100 verses (2 per week) this year.

These are good and well but if not followed through, what have I done?

A Word with Friends 2013Some people have a custom of choosing a motto word for their year. Last year my word was faithful or faithfulness. During 2012, I have seen God's faithfulness in my life and my family's life, close and extended, but can I say I have been faithful? not really. So for this year I am switching gear, I need to be more faithful and in order to be more faithful I realized I need endurance. We start well, but the problem is continuing, pressing on, enduring the time. So, here is what I am going to keep reminding myself this year:

I NEED TO ENDURE and REMAIN STEADFAST!

What is endurance?
There are 5 several definitions to this word but the one I am focussing on is that ability or strength to continue or last on a path, or on a task.

Another synonym of this word is steadfastness which brings in the idea of fixed, unchanging and steady.
The bible has a lot to stay about these concepts:

Hebrews 12:1:
"Therefore, since we are surrounded by so great a cloud of witnesses, let us also lay aside every weight, and sin which clings so closely, and let us run with endurance the race that is set before..."

Hebrews 10:36:
"For you have need of endurance, so that when you have done the will of God you may receive what is promised."

Luke 21:19:
"By your endurance you will gain your lives."

Romans 5: 3 & 4
"Not only that, but we rejoice in our sufferings, knowing that suffering produces endurance, and endurance produces character, and character produces hope . . ."

The Christian life is to be run and lived with endurance. For this year my hope is to practice this. God is always faithful, I need to remain steady is my walk with him, in my commitments, in my priorities and in my roles.

I know I do not have it in me, it is only by the grace of God that I will be able to do this, but this is where faith comes in. We start by faith and continue and persevere by faith.

So, as I appropriate this word this year, it will be my daily prayer that, by the grace of God, I will endure and remain steadfast in all the things I need to be and do, by His grace and for His Glory.

Reformation Day Giveaway

We are approaching October 31, which is an important date for all protestants. This date commemorates Martin Luther’s nailing of his ninety-five theses to a church door on October 31, 1517 in Wittenburg, Germany, which in turn provoked a debate that resulted in what we now call the Protestant Reformation. As the “Father of the Reformation”, Martin Luther is a vital figure in Church History. His sacrifice and willingness to wage battle against the spiritual, religious, and political powers of his medieval world allowed Christians throughout time to embrace the following truths: salvation by grace alone , through faith alone,  and in Christ alone, along with the supremacy of Scripture, referred to as  Scripture alone, and all of it for God's Glory Alone. These being commonly called the Five Solas of the Reformation.  Danika Cooley, author and creator of the Bible curriculum Bible Road Trip ,  has recently written a book for young people recounting Luther's story:   When
