Sunday Hymn

By Grace Alone Every promise we can make Every prayer and step of faith Every difference we can make Is only by His grace. Every mountain we will climb Every ray of hope we shine Every blessing left behind Is only by His grace Grace alone Which God supplies Strength unknown He will provide Christ in us, our cornerstone We will go forth in grace alone. Every soul we long to reach Every heart we hope to teach Everywhere we share His peace Is only by His grace. Every loving word we say Every tear we wipe away Every sorrow turned to praise Is only by His grace. ©1998 Maranatha! Music. Weekly wrap-up

Another week has gone by. I was rather quiet this week because I have really been trying to give the kids, and the house, the attention needed. I still get to read some posts in my reader on some days, but taking the time to write a post is not always possible. I've got a whole lot to share though. We'll see how I can find the balance in the coming weeks. School wise we've completed our subjects, FLL, Science (learned about food chains and food webs), Spelling, reading (where we learn about the origin of the song O.B.E.D.I.E.N.C.E), odd Math practice (since we are done with our Math book), Handwriting and Geography. And of course Joho and his favorite activity: Board games We also finished working on the project for the fair. This week I also have been busy searching curriculum, and when I say searching, I have to see samples, so that takes a lot of my time at the computer. I've got 3 carts full of stuff ready to be ordered. This week was also a gorgeous sunny warm week...

Sunday Hymn

Ancient Words by Lynn DeShazo Holy words long preserved For our walk in this world They resound with God's own heart O let the ancient words impart Words of life Words of hope Give us strength Help us cope In this world where'er we roam Ancient words will guide us home Chorus Ancient words ever true Changing me and changing you We have come with open hearts O let the ancient words impart Holy words of our faith Handed down to this age Came to us through sacrifice O heed the faithful words of Christ Holy words long preserved For our walk in this world They resound with God's own heart O let the words impart (Repeat Chorus) Click here to listen to the melody Have a blessed  Sunday,

Weekly wrap-up

Another week has passed by. I have to say it was a good week because we had sun through out. That does not mean we took advantage of it much, but hey, having sun beaming in the house is really nice. We did have a playdate on Tuesday, which meant time outside, which the kids really enjoyed. Academically we covered our subjects, spelling, geography, Science, Reading, English. Our Singapore Math is done and I am contemplating getting Profesor B Math in the very near future. I will still continue with Singapore Math 2 but add Professor B to it. We also made cookies and cake this week as well as some crafts. The highlight of the week was Zach listening to Huckeberry Finn on audio book, following along in the book, 5 times in the week. Last night, he decided to start on Tom Sawyer (we had bought it for him, with his agreement, on Monday). What 6 year old  reads the unabridged version of Tom Sawyer? I am short this week as I am feeling really tired exploring curriculum. How was your week...

A little bit of self-promoting

Ok, last week I added the friend connect widget on my blog (right sidebar), and I would love for you who read my blog to join. Because of the homeschoolblogger platform I often have no way of knowing who visits my blog or leaves a comment (I mean name and blog) , unless you leave your name and blog in the comment itself.  I would really love to be able to connect better with all of you. So, please consider joining. Thanks. Hope you are having a great day,

Weekly wrap-up

Wow, the year is going full speed, isn't it? This week was a reasonably good week. We have been back using our paper schedule and it has helped keeping us on track. Mommy has also been trying to stay on track and disciplined. Which means not letting distraction keeping me from what I am suposed to do. THis kind of thing gives reason to the kids not to be dilligent. This week I have been implementing a few things that I have learned from my time of searching and reflextion of the past 2 weeks. One of them I just mentioned, another one is giving full attention to the boys when doing school. I had this bad habit of doing something else while I was waiting for them to complete an assignment. For some kids you can do that, for some it does the opposite effect: dawdling. I happened on a post on Cutting Down on Frustration , and it really hit home. Now I try to patiently wait for him to do the assignment, if need be, I engage him. It actually has been interesting to see how it has allow...

Listening to litterature made easy

In trying to have my kids exposed to more classics, I have started an audio book listening time. We have it while they cleaned up their toys, before dinner, everyday. So far the kids have been really enjoying it. I was surprised to see them listen to a book quite attentive for a good half hour. Here are some books they have listen to so far: Winnie the Pooh stories Sarah Lee Burton books I Stink Harry and the dinosaur books Today I came across this excellent article on the benefit of adding more books to your reading schedule  using audio book. It really makes the case for it. Go over and enjoy it.   Have a great day,
