Sunday Hymn

I Stand in Awe By By Mark Altrogge You are beautiful beyond description, Too marvelous for words, Too wonderful for comprehension, Like nothing ever seen or heard. Who can grasp Your infinite wisdom? Who can fathom the depth of Your love? You are beautiful beyond description, Majesty enthroned above. Ref.: And I stand, I stand in awe of You I stand, I stand in awe of You Holy God to whom all praise is due, I stand in awe of You. You are beautiful beyond description, Yet God crushed You for my sin, In agony and deep affliction, Cut off that I might enter in. Who can grasp such tender compassion? Who can fathom this mercy so free? You are beautiful beyond description, Lamb of God who died for me.

Weekly Wrap-up

We had another typical week of school this week. School subjects got done Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday. Not as many as usual, but I am a somewhat relaxed homeschooler that tries to add as much classical and Charlotte Masson as possible in her schedule. So, we've covered Math, still struggling through these Subtractions with renaming. I have decided to take it back to the beginning and as a matter of fact I get so frustrated with Zach that we decided that dad is going to do math for a little while. That would mean me definitely waking up early so that we have breakfast early enough for dad to do Math before he goes to work at 9:00. I am not a Math person, so as much as I can explain how do do Math to Zach I can not explain math as a discipline. Zach thinks that math is complete non sense. I think it springs from his outside the box way of thinking and his not liking of rules and established conventions. So, let's hope dad can make a dent in his brain. We also covered some Engli...

The Homeschool Village - Fall Connection

This week at the Homeschool village is abou t Fall Spirit! How do you show your fall spirit? First of all I should say fall is my favorite seasons, mainly for 2 reasons: It's cool and I love all those changes of color. I love decorations but I am not that great at it. Add to this problem our very low financial freedom, you get very little done in term of making the home very "fally". This year I decided to ntry to do something, so I put a basket full of apples on the dining table, and added this: What do we actually in the fall? Well I am not much of an outdoor person, but during the fall I certainly make sure we do lots of nature walk and enjoy the color changes and the leaves falling. We pick up leaves, play in the leaves and just enjoy the beauty of it all. Our annual tradition is apple picking, for the past 4 years. We all love it and we get to have fresh apple for fall baking which includes Apple pies, apple crisp, apple coffee cakes etc...

Top Ten - A Charlotte Mason Education

There are so many homeschooling styles out there and sometimes it can be  difficult to tell what is what, and also difficult to choose one. I thought it might be useful to start a series on the main tenants of the different philisophies out there through a list of top ten characteristics. Since we had a little workshop on the Charlotte Masson philosophy yesterday in our homeschool monthly meeting, I thought I'd share what I learned. 1. Education is an Atmosphere - the child's environment should not be dumbed down but inspiring. We must nurture the mind. 2. Education is a Life - education should not be separated from everyday life, but rather integrated. 3. Education is a Discipline - Formation of good habits. 4. Short lessons are key - the goal should be nurturing good attention habits and keeping things interesting and fun through a careful varying of the subjects. 5. Use of Living Books and lots of read-alouds. 6. Use of Narration. Read short passages of good literature and h...

Sunday Hymn

My Shepherd (Psalm 23) by Michael Card The Lord is my Shepherd And so I lack nothing In meadows of green grass He lets me lie down Beside the still waters He patiently leads me Restoring my soul, restoring my soul For His holy Namesake He guides me by right paths Though I may stray to The vale of deep darkness I fear no evil For You are there with me Beside me Your rod and staff They comfort me You prepare a table Before my enemies My head you've anointed My cup's overflowing Your goodness and mercy Will follow me all the days of my life And I'll make my home place In the house of the Lord Click Here to listen to it sung.

Weekly Wrap-Up

Praise the Lord we  had a good productive week. We went back on schedule with our school subjects. I changed the scheduling yet again, but I am fine with that. One thing I understand with homeschooling, is that we have to be ready to change at any time, whether it be curriculum, style or schedule. I had started to do school in the afternoon, now, our schedule goes, 1 or 2 subjects, then they are allowed to play something, then back for 1 or 2 subjects, then play some, and so on, until we have completed the plan for the day. This is new so we will see how that goes. We covered Math with subtractions using manipulative, and some number exercise from Professor B on going from one form to another, as well as additions facts on 9+, 8+, 7+ and 6+. We continued on our BJU English, Science with AHA Science, Handwriting, French with Powerspeak, and we even were able to cover some of our week 7 in Tapestry of Grace. Lots of reading and talking here. We were able to fit in Science from Real Scien...

The Homeschool Village - Uniforms

It's been a while since I have linked up at The Homeschool Village. I have missed everybody. This week we are sharing about uniforms:  What does getting dressed look like in your home? Do you wear mismatched socks and neon lounge pants? What's the funniest thing your kid wears to school? O ne of the great thing I like about homeschooling is the whole ordeal of not to have to wake  up early necessarily, getting dressed at a certain time, getting on the bus, and all of that. At our home I do require the kids to get dressed (although my 5 year old ends up often time spending the whole day in his PJ, but that's because his PJ are not necessary sleep clothes). Getting dressed is part of the morning routine along with breakfast, catechism, Bible memory verse and brushing teeth, things that have to be done in the morning. I believe kids need to learn discipline and having a certain routine helps with that. I do like the fact though, that I do not have to worry about what kind of c...

Sunday Hymn

Who Am I Casting Crowns Who am I, that the Lord of all the earth Would care to know my name Would care to feel my hurt? Who am I, that the bright and morning star Would choose to light the way For my ever wondering heart? Not because of who I am But because of what You've done Not because of what I've done But because of who You are I am a flower quickly fading Here today and gone tomorrow A wave tossed in the ocean A vapor in the wind Still You hear me when I'm calling Lord You catch me when I'm falling And You told me who I am I am Yours, I am Yours Who am I, that the eyes that see our sin Would look on me with love And watch me rise again? Who am I, that the voice that calmed the sea Would call out through the rain And calm the storm in me? Not because of who I am But because what of You've done Not because of what I've done But because of who You are I am a flower quickly fading Here today and gone tomorrow A wave tossed in the ocean A vapor in the wind Stil...
