Lapbook ressources

I have been introduced to lapbooking from the very beginning of my very short homeschooling journey. So far I have made a few lapbooks with the help of  lapbooking sites like these: www.lapbooklessons.com www.homeschoolshare.com www.homeschoolhelperonline.com Here are pics of what we have done. Some of them are not fully finished. There is still space to add to them. This one is about the Bible One on bees We did two on trains This one was on various themes: colors, days and months ... One on Noah. This one was our first lapbook One on Easter

Little scientist

Just a few pics of our visit to the science center on monday. Amazing the amount of stuff you can do there. My oldest one had a whole lot of fun figuring out the power and strength of water. It was certainly fun watching him.

Book review

While on our trip I finished a book called: Say Goodbye to Whining, Complaining, and Bad Attitudes...in You and Your Kids by Scott Turanski and Joanne Miller. I tremendrously enjoyed it. It is packed with godly advices, suggestions and principles for eragating bad attitudes in your children and oneself. It is basically on the power of honor. We often hear and read about obedience and forget that the verse in Ephesians 6 talks about both obedience and honor. In their book, the authors really expand and explain what honor is about and how to implement it in our daily dealings with our kids. They show how practicing the concept of honor in our daily dealings improves our relationships, enhaces good attitudes and touches to the heart of raising kids. This book is easy to read, fun, clear, balanced  and most of all biblically sound. I highly recommend it to every parent.

Road trip

We went on a road trpp this past week. Drove from Toronto to Arkansas for my husband's cousin's wedding. We had a very good time (even in the car!). The trip was made much easier with the DVD player we bought the boys especially for the trip and the snack and play tray we got them also for the trip. I really like the tray as it allowed them to do puzzles, write, eat without making a mess and much more. It can even be attached to a stroller. The tray is availaible at amazon .com for $19.95. On our trip I discovered that some rest areas have playground, at least on Illinois's highway. That was really cool.

Thoughts on faith

Today was sunday and of course we were at church. Our pastor talked on faith this morning and I thought I would share some of the things he said. "It does not require good works to get to heaven; it requires perfect works. Therefore, our work could never get us to heaven. Only faith, the gift of God, anchored in God and based on the knowledge of Him and His Word, can and will get us to heaven." "Faith is essential for our salvation, our sanctification and our service." The God in whom our faith is anchored is Eternal, Powerful an Faithful, therefore when faced with a problem, we may say to ourselves "This is too big for me", but we must say next: "This is a small thing for God."       These words were really meaningful to me as I struggle in so many areas in my homekeeping, scheduling and routine. I was again reminded that whatever we are struggling with we need to entrust it to God and really trust Him to work it out. Our God cares and is willin

Spring summer day

Today was a beautiful, sunny hot day and of course we took advantage of that and headed to the playgroung this morning. It was a real workout for me, pushing that double stroller with more than 75lb on it to the 20 minutes away playgroung. But we all had fun. The kids enjoyed the sand, the clubhouse and slides and swings, while I was trying to catch some bugs for us to examine (got to put to use the exploring stuff I got from the dollar store). We came back with a beetle and 2 ladybugs that died on the way ( do not know why), 3 caterpillars and a snail. That was a real peek at what the summer holds for us. Sounds fun!    Here is a look at what we found:

Leading Little ones to God

I heard about this devotional for kids (3-8) on another website and thought this ccould be something I could use with my boys. So I went ahead and bought it. I must say I really like it. It's called Leading Little Ones to God: A Child's Book of Bible Teachings by Mariam M. Schoolland. It is quite theologically sound and yet very easy to read and understand. It is profound enough and yet short enough to keep the attention of a little one. Each chapter has a song and a prayer to go along with the theme and has also a Scripture passage and a memory verse accompanying the theme discussed. it is great to introduce and teach doctrine to little ones. We'll probably go through it more than once. I am even planning to make a poster with the themes we covered, a section at a time, to help my sons remember them.
