Try a New Recipe Tuesday

Ribs have been on sale in our city the past few weeks. This past couple of times we tried a couple new recipes. I thought I would share the one we made today. Pork with Maple Glaze Apples and Sweet Onions ( my own crockpot version ) Ingredients: 1 rack of ribs, or pork chops 3 tablespoon maple syrup 1 Tablespoon brown sugar 1/4 teaspoon cinnamon 1 sweet onion (though I use regular onion) 2 apples or more 1/4 cup of beef or chicken broth thyme, Cajun seasoning, salt and pepper 2 tablespoon of butter Preparation: Season the ribs with the spices and place at the bottom of the crockpot. Mix the onion and apples together. Add in the maple syrup, sugar and cinnamon. Pour the whole mixture on top of the ribs and place dots of butter on top. Cover and let it cook on low for 8 hours. Alternately: You can caramelize the onions and apples in a skillet with the syrup, sugar and cinnamon in butter, and then pour it on top of the ribs. Enjoy! This has a delicious sweet flav

5 on Friday

It is a new year school year and we have been at it for the past 4 weeks already. I have been a bit hiatus here on the blog, as a result of trying to be more present in my home than on the internet, but I thought it would be good to give a little update of what is happening here in our homeschool. 1. What we are doing in school . We started the 3rd week of August with only a few subjects such as Math and Grammar, and have moved on now to adding History, Science, Latin, French, Logic/Philosophy, Handwriting and spelling. I am still tweaking our schedule so as to have a smooth week, but so far things are going relatively well. Zach is enjoying his History studies, as usual, especially as we are in the middle of a study of WWI. I am very thrilled to see realized what veteran homechoolers have told me when I used to complain about Zach hating writing, which was that by the time they reach 10 or 11 years of age, boys just start writing. Indeed this school year I have yet to hear him

Time4Learning - TOS Review

School at the computer and through online resources is becoming more and more prevalent in our technological culture. What I think about this trend is a topic for a different post, but in the past month I got the privilege of reviewing a leader in this field. Time4Learning is an online educational curriculum which covers a variety of school subjects, such as Language Arts, Math, Social Studies, Science and, newly added, Art. It targets students from Preschools to grade 12. Time4Learning can be used as a complete curriculum, or as an after-school supplement. It requires a log in and you have a choice between lower or upper level. It is a subscription-based  program costing:  $19.95/month for Preschool through to grade 8 $30/month for High School (4 Courses) Time4Learning is very comprehensive in its scope and very interactive in its form. The student's attention is kept  focused on the topic at hand. Something to note about Time4Learning is the flexibility
