Some sites worth checking out

I have been busy preparing for a science co-op class starting this Friday. I have decided to teach on Bones, Muscles and Skin. I have been using some online resources to prepare for this and I thought I would share these sites and some others. First, I would like to recommend Lesson pathway . I few weeks ago I was able to join in a panel of beta tester for this site, and I am really glad I took on the opportunity. They have a great array of resources for K-12 on lots of school subjects. It is a payed membership but they do have some free stuff and offer a trial. Second, would be a site called KidsHealth , which contains great free info, articles and movies on subjects related to our body and how it works. Thirdly, I've used the science curriculum we are presently using, Classic Science . Fourthly, is abcteach which is a great resource for the classroom for K-12. It has worksheets, activities, with a make your own option. It is a payed membership as well, but I took advantage of

Weekly Wrap-up

This post is very late but hopefully it makes it in. This week was busy trying to keep school going before the year rolls in too much and the changes in schedule and all. We got English, Math, Spelling, History, Geography and Science done. Hourray! Zach did spelling jumping on the sofa and Math standing on the ball (which dad said was not be repeated, for the ball's sake). Johann finally drew a picture that I can recognize: a map to a garden (he called it). We added games to our Math time and that was nice. The highlight of the week was our day at the cottage today with some friends: Have a great day,

Books and more Books Part 2

I finally get around to post this sequal. A few weeks ago, I wrote a post about train books that my boys have enjoyed from the library. As promised, here is a selection of Trucks and Construction books my boys have enjoyed and are enjoying: <A HREF="http://ws.amazon.com/widgets/q?ServiceVersion=20070822&MarketPlace=US&ID=V20070822%2FUS%2Fhomesforhisgl-20%2F8003%2F19b8f4e4-7338-40a9-8742-508d8afbaf38&Operation=NoScript" _fcksavedurl="http://ws.amazon.com/widgets/q?ServiceVersion=20070822&MarketPlace=US&ID=V20070822%2FUS%2Fhomesforhisgl-20%2F8003%2F19b8f4e4-7338-40a9-8742-508d8afbaf38&Operation=NoScript">Amazon.com Widgets</A> And more <A HREF="http://ws.amazon.com/widgets/q?ServiceVersion=20070822&MarketPlace=US&ID=V20070822%2FUS%2Fhomesforhisgl-20%2F8010%2F83ceed28-536f-4ebf-9147-f39d4558a7d5&Operation=NoScript" _fcksavedurl="http://ws.am

Sunday Song

There is a Hope by Stuart Townend and Mark Edwards There is a hope that burns within my heart, That gives me strength for ev'ry passing day; a glimpse of glory now revealed in meager part, Yet drives all doubt away: I stand in Christ, with sins forgiv'n; and Christ in me, the hope of heav'n! My highest calling and my deepest joy, to make His will my home. There is a hope that lifts my weary head, A consolation strong against despair, That when the world has plunged me in its deepest pit, I find the Savior there! Through present sufferings, future's fear, He whispers, "Courage!" in my ear. For I am safe in everlasting arms, And they will lead me home. There is a hope that stands the test of time, That lifts my eyes beyond the beckoning grave, To see the matchless beauty of a day divine When I behold His face! When sufferings cease and sorrows die, and every longing satisfied, then joy unspeakable will flood my soul, For I am truly home. To hear it click here.

Weekly Wrap-up

I am back in the Weekly Wrap-Up theme hosted by Kris @ Weird Unsocialized Homeschoolers , as we just ended our week back home. It has been an easy going week with unpacking, re-arranging, laundry and re-adjusting to school . This is our 6th week in school. We were able to complete our English and Math as scheduled for the week, which is a relief, no lagging behind! We were even able to fit in our history and science chapter. I enjoyed Zach's questions while reading about the time of the flood and after in our History for Little Pilgrims : "Why is there still sin?" and "How did we come alive again?" Violin is back on track as well with Zach's first group lesson for the year today. I was quite happy when I saw that in in his class of 4, he was the most advanced, when he was the one who started last (except for one who has just started a couple of months ago and probably should be in the previous class). The biggest thing this week was getting to know our ne

Wordless Wednesday

He is sleeping! Have a great day,

Back on the blogging sphere

We are back from a road trip to Williamsburg/VA Beach, VA. We were gone 10 days and had a great time. We visited the Virginia Living Museum, The Children's museum in Portsmouth, Nauticus in Norfolk and the Zoo in Norfolk as well, spent a few hours at the beach, and of course did some shopping at the Prime Outlet and Williamsburg Outlet Mall. The highlight of the trip for the boys was the underwater tunnel in the Norfolk/Portsmouth and VA Beach area. They really liked that being the construction workers and builders that they are. I have lots of pics so bear with me in the next few days or weeks. Here are a few to start with: The inevitable and much needed car naps: Tunnel ride: Some family pics: We are back at school as of yesterday, of course in slow motion but going. Have a great day,

Work for me Wednesday

The theme today at We are that Family is organization tips. This is still an area I am working on, but with all the reading and research I have been doing I have accumulated a few tips and I'll share a few that i actually use in my home After reading a lot about the benefit and use of a Household binder , I have finally made up one. There is plenty still to do on it, but I have been using it with success for filing lots of my homeschool stuff. You can read about it here . I have been making use of a Junk box and I say box, not drawer . Preferably a small one so as not to fill it up. I try to restrict this box to rubber bands, odd and ends that are difficult to find a spot for, without losing it in the pile. i have one in one of my kitchen drawer, my desk drawer and on one of my entrance book shelf. A few years ago I read about this great idea of making a list of jobs that can be done in 5-10 min , and then make a point everyday, or even several times a day to accompli

And out it goes . . .

This is what I got out of Joho's nose tonight. This evening he started complaining again about something in his nose. He wanted me to go in again with my tweezers. I did not think there was anything in there, as I could not see anything. So, after his bath I indulged him, and indeed, I could barely see something way at the back. So, in I go and what do I have coming out: the famous piece of tape . I thanked God because I was really wondering about that thing. They got a nice talking about sticking things up their noses, or ears, or even mouths. Hope they remember. . . Have a great day,

What do you do when your child stickd tape up his nose?

First , you look and try to see what's in the nose. Second , you have him blow his nose as hard as he can, a nd as much as he can. Third, if there is still something up the nose (in my case I could see it) , you take him to the clinic. Fourth , oups, the clinic is closed! Buy a pair of tweezers, and try to perform the surgery yourself. NOSE CLEAR, you can breathe. I only got tissue out, though, a big ball of it. I do not know where the tape is. This is what happened to me today. Joho seems to be fine. I am still wondering whether I should take him in to have it checked out . . . I'm definitely gonna watch it! Any of you have similar stories? Have a great day,
