Link treasures

Ok, one of the reason I started blogging is because I enjoyed reading other blogs. I found so many treasures and valuable info, helps, tips and ideas, that I thought I should give back to the blogosphere and share of what I was learning here in the blogosphere and on my own. So, I have decided to make a weekly post which I will call Link Treasures to share some of the wonderful articles and post I come across during that week. So here we go: Blueberry House discusses the need to teach our kids independent learning . Heart of the matter has quite a few interesting articles that I enjoyed recently such as Teaching a foreign language , Making your home a haven , and the advantage of siblings-teachers. The Tie that Binds us has a great article on the home Creating an atmosphere of learning. At the Well has this very good article on Teaching responsability and character development through chores . Weekly Wrap-Up

Another week is is done. We had a pretty nice week mixed with school and some fun activities. Monday night we went to one of the boys' playdate friend birthday party, and they had their regular playdate on Wednesday as well. For school, we are still trodding along in our Math. We were able to cover the shape chapter in 4 days, leaving today a Math free day. FLL is going well as well. We are at our 5th poem memorization and Zachary is doing very well with it (it is a 3 stanzas one). It is called Mr. Nobody. I particularly liked today's lesson about dates, as I think Zach needed that one. In science, we finished our biome unit with the aquatic biome. I have been lagging with the science experiments. Hopefully I will still do them before moving on to the next unit (or may be not, we'll see. . .) I did start on the lapbook on this unit, but I can't say when that is going to be done . . . History is going ok as well. Nothing special to report here. We all enjoyed our outing

Patience and perseverance.

Did I just say patience and perseverance . Wow, these two words are so packed with meaning and weight. If more of us were patient and persevered a bit more, the world most likely would be a different place. I have always known I was not a patient person. as for perseverance, well, I have my moments. being a parent certainly brings out the presence or lack thereof of these 2 virtues. But, I am not planning to talk about me. We all know we need to to improve in these areas. The object of this post is about nurturing these virtues in our kids. As you may know, Zach is learning violin using the Suzuki method. Like any other instruments and anything in life, anytime we learn something, it is about trial and error . Correcting the wrong habit and training ourselves, our fingers, or whatever it is that needs the training, to do the right thing. Well, this week has been a difficult week for Zach on his violin. He has this technique that he just can't seem to master, or should I say,

What's on your Nightstand.

O k, I have joined yet another meme. This one is called 5 Minutes for Books.  If you want to know what it is about, check it over here . Each week, it's a different theme, and this week is about " What's on your nightstand ". As you can see on my sidebar, I have a pile on my nightstand. So, I am going to use this as a challenge to get through that pile. For this first post I will list all these books that I have started and want to get though. And every month, I will give an update of either how I am doing or/and of what I have learned so far. So here we go: Love & Respect: The Love She Most Desires, the Respect He Desperately Needs By Dr. Emerson Eggerichs / Thomas Nelson Dr. Emerson Eggerichs' book, Love & Respect: The Love She Most Desires, the Respect He Desperately Needs , is based on the biblical passage from Ephesians 5:33 ( But every husband must love his wife as he loves hims

Fall day

As I mentioned before, I am not much of an outdoor and nature person, but today was a nice sunny day, so I decided to do the "right thing" and took the kids out to play in the leaves and get some much needed sun. We had a very nice time. I actually really love autumn! Have a great day,

Sunday Hymn

Once Again Matt Redman Jesus Christ, I think upon Your sacrifice You became nothing Poured out to death Many times, I've wondered at your gift of life I'm in that place once again I'm in that place once again And once again I look upon the cross where You died I'm humbled by Your mercy and I'm broken inside Once again I thank You, Once again I pour out my life Now You are exhalted to the highest place King of the Heavens, where one day I'll bow But for now, I'll marvel at Your saving grace I'm full of praise once again Oh I'm full of praise once again And once again I look upon the cross where You died I'm humbled by Your mercy and I'm broken inside Once again I thank You Once again I pour out my life Thank you for the cross Thank you for the cross Thank you for the cross, my friend And once again I look upon the cross where You died I'm humbled by Your mercy and I'm broken inside Once again I thank You Once again I pour out my life H

Weekly Wrap-up

It's Friday. Another week has passed by. Another week of learning. We started school back this week and it was met with a bit of resistance on Monday  but quickly got under control. WE were able to cover all our planned subjects. We're moving right along with First Language Lessons . In Math, we are seeing the end of the first set of books picking in the horizon and I am thrilled about that; I think Zach too. As I mentioned here , we've included some games now to help with getting the math facts down. Comprehension of concepts is very good but math facts knowledge is still rather limited. In Science we are covering biomes and it has been a very interesting topic.  We've learned about grasslands, coniferous, deciduous and tropical forest, desert and Tundra. next week is going to be about the Aquatic biome. I am hoping to come up with a lapbook about it. Still cogitating . . . as usual . . . I've got all the books though: In History we are moving along in our History
